The church of Rathven, prior to the reformation, belonged to the Collegiate Church at Cullen and references to the church date back as far as 1224. Ministry of Rathven is recorded from 1558 in the person of George Hay. The old church of Rathven stood until 1794 when it was demolished to make way for the present day building. Buckie North was linked with Rathven in 1975, however this arrangement was terminated in 1980 in favour of a link with Enzie. The linkage with Enzie was also severed in 1997 and in the same year Rathven was linked with Findochty. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Fordyce until by Act of Assembly 1961, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce, and Rathven presently sits within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Moray. |
