The church of Portmoak, which was known of old as Kirkness, was originally dedicated to St Moan but there exists a later dedication to St Stephen. In 838 the ancient Celtic priory of Loch Leven was founded in the parish, a priory which was later converted into an Augustinian Monastery by King David I. Portmoak church was removed to it's present site in 1661 and the old church stood until 1832 when it was rebuilt. Balgeddie was united with the session in 1936 and Portmoak further linked with Orwell in 1978. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kinross, later of Dunfermline and Kinross and presently of Perth. |
