A church was first built in Pitsligo at a location at Peathill in 1630 by Sir Alexander Forbes of Pisligo. The parish itself was later formed in 1633 by Act of Parliament, when it was disjoind from Aberdour. The original building stood until 1890 when, due to having fallen into a state of disrepair, it was replaced by the new kirk. In 1954 Pitsligo was united with the congregation of Rosehearty. Both churches remained in use after the union, however the church at Peathill was used for worship only during the summer months. By 1997 it was evident that it was no longer a possibility to sustain both churches within the parish and consequently on the 21st September 1997 the Church at Peathill ceased to be used as a place of worship. Pitsligo was linked with Sandhaven in 1985. The kirk session sat with the Presbytery of Deer and later of Buchan. |
