Prior to the Reformation the church was appropriated to the Abbey of Newbattle. Ministry began in 1567 with John Gray serving as minister. Until 1929 the session was within the jurisdiction of Linlithgow Presbytery. Following this the session was within the jurisdiction of Bathgate Presbytery until 1964 when the presbytery was renamed Livingstone and Bathgate Presbytery. Since at least 1976 the session has been within the jurisdiction of West Lothian Presbytery. The church which was built in 1596 was demolished in 1882 and a new church built. |
