The church of Ormiston was dedicated to St Giles and prior to the reformation had belonged to the Trinity College Hospital at Edinburgh. A united free church was established in Ormiston, and in order to distinguish between the United Free Church and the Parish Church in the early 20th century the latter became known as Ormiston St Giles and the former Ormiston St John's. The two sessions of St Giles and St John's were united in 1936 and a new church was built 3 years later in 1939. Ormiston later linked with Prestonpans grange in 1975 however this link was terminated in 1981 in favour of a link with Pencaitland. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dalkeith, later Haddington and Dunbar and presently the Presbytery of Lothian. |
