The church at Olrig was dedicated to St Trothan and ministry here is recorded from 1570 in the person of Francis Wright. A united free church was established in Olrig and in order to distinguish between the United Free Church and the Parish Church in the early 20th century the latter became known as Olrig West and the former Olrig East. The two sessions of East and West were united in 1938 after which time the West church continued in use as the Parish church. During the Second World War the former East, church which was built in 1841, was used for billeting and as a result became unusable. Olrig was linked with Dunnet in 1970. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Caithness. |
