The medieval church was dedicated by Bishop de Bernham on 18 August 1243, probably to St Marnoch. At a latter date the dedication was altered to St Stephen. The medieval church was appropriated to the Abbey of Balmerino. Ministry within the session began in 1591 with John Gardyne serving as vicar. Until c 1955 the session was under the jurisdication of Arbroath Presbytery. This was followed, until 1976, by Angus and Mearns Presbytery, after which time the session was within the jurisdiction of Angus Presbytery. In 1954 the session united with the United Free Church congregation of Barry East to become Barry Parish Church. |
