The kirk session of Newtyle which sat with in the Presbytery of Meigle and later of Angus, originally belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath and the church was dedicated by Bishop de Bernham in 1242. Ministry here is recorded from 1566 in the person of Andrew Lindsay. In 1929 the United Free Church returned to the established church and the congregations were renamed Newtyle West (Church of Scotland) and Newtyle East (formerly United Free Church). In 1938 they were united and became Newtyle once again. Newtyle was linked in 1966 with Eassie and Nevay. |
