Newmains existed originally as a quoad sacra parish and services were for a time held in the school. In 1878 however James Houldsworth of Coltness built a church in memory of his eldest son, Henry Herbery Coltness who died in 1876. The session of Newmains Coldness Memorial was disjoined from the parish Cambusnethen in 1879. Newmains Coltness was linked in 1980 with Newmains Bonkle. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Hamilton and formerly the Synod of Glasgow and Ayr. |
