The church of Muirkirk, or Muirkirk of Kyle, Ayrshire, was formed in 1631 by disjunction from Mauchline. The parish church was rebuilt in 1812. The charge is in Ayr presbytery, and until the reorganisation of 1929 was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr, thereafter in that of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. After 1929 it became Muirkirk Old, but in 1947 united with Muirkirk Wellwood as Muirkirk. The church was damaged by fire in 1949, but was restored and re-dedicated in 1953. In the same year Muirkirk united with Glenbuck. |
