The united parish, which sat within the presbytery of Peebles, and Synod of Lothian and Tweedale, was Patronised by the Earl of Wemyss. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1563. The parishes were united in 1620 as a result of a petition from the proprietor and inhabitants of Megget to the Lord Commissioners for the Plantation of Kirks, requesting that they be made a part of the Parish of Lyne. Both parishes at the time of the union belonged to one proprietor, Lord Hay of Yester, and it is likely that he would have had considerable influence over the annexation of Megget [Meggat]. Lyne was originally a chapel of Stobo, but afterwards became a rectory, the church was built prior to the Reformation, but repaired in 1831. The ancient church of Megget is now a ruin at Henderland, surrounded by a cemetery, which is still in use. Megget and Lyne were disjoined in 1948 and in the same year Megget united with Yarrow and Lyne linked with Manor. Lyne and Manor were united 1st September 1951. |
