Lonmay was a prebend of Aberdeen and was dedicated to St Columba. The old church stood very near to the coast at the village of St Combs but the parish church was moved to a site about 2 miles further inland in 1607. Remains of the old church can still be seen on the original site. Ministry at Lonmay is recorded from 1574 in the person of Alexander Barclay. Lonmay was linked in 1958 with Rathen West and in later years with Crimond and St Fergus. It sat with in the Presbytery of Deer, later Buchan and formerly the Synod of Aberdeen. The present church was built in 1787. |
