The church of Longformacus was dedicated by Bishop David de Bernham on 1243. The parish had anciently been united with Mordington but this union was dissolved in 1666 and Longformacus was united with Ellem in 1712. The church of Ellem was disused after the union and in 1730 a new church was built on the foundations of the old Longformacus church, which had been in a state of disrepair since the late 1660s. The kirk session, which sat within the Presbytery of Duns and formerly the Synod of Merse and Teviotdale, was later linked with Abbey St Bathan's and Cranshaws in 1973 under the ministry of Rev. C E Eddy. On the 10th March 1983 the congregation of Longformacus united with Abbey St Bathan's and Cranshaws church to form Kirk of Lammermuir and was later linked with Langton and Polwarth on the 5th July 1983. |
