The kirk session of Logie-Pert was formed in 1612 by the union of the parishes of Logie (formerly Logie-Montrose) and of Pert. The union was passed by Parliament in 1647 and the heritors agreed to build a new church in the centre of the parish. The renewal of the Act of Union was later ratified by Parliament in 1661. The new church was rebuilt in 1775 and again in 1841. The old church of Logie was dedicated to St Martin and both old Parish Churches still remain standing as ruins. A United Church of Logie-Pert was erected under the name of Logie-Pert St Martins, ministry here is recorded from 1914. The two charges of Logie-Pert and Logie-Pert St Martin's were united in 1943. The united session of Logie-Pert later linked with Stracathro in 1957. The congregation was dissolved in 1982. Logie-Pert sat within the Presbytery of Brechin, (later Brechin and Fordoun), until by Act of Assembly 1961 the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under the name of Angus and Mearns. |
