The Kirk Session of Kirkurd was established following the Reformation in 1560. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1574. Following the establishment of presbyteries by the General Assembly in 1581, the Kirk Session of Kirkurd became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. In 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. In 1935, several years after the union of the Church of Scotland with the United Free Church of Scotland, Kirkurd united with Blythbridge (formerly Kirkurd United Free Church). In 1962, Kirkurd was linked with Newlands, and in 1984, the two were united under the name Kirkurd and Newlands. |
