The parish of Braemar was originally known as Kindrochet and is reputed to have been founded in the 8th century by King Angus. It was dedicated to St Andrews and belonged to the Priory of Monymusk. Braemar and the parish of Crathie were united in the early 17th century and the two parishes remained unified until 1879 when Braemar was disjoined quoad sacra from Crathie. The first parochial register of the, then united parish, commences on the 25th September 1700 and was started upon the ordination of Mr Adam Ferguson. A United Free Church was also established within the Parish of Braemar and the two sessions were united in 1946. Crathie was linked once again with Braemar in 1978. The parish sat with the Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil (later Kincardine and Deeside) and formerly the Synod of Aberdeen. |
