The church of Kilmory in Arran, belonged to the Abbey of Kilwinning and was dedicated to St Mary. The parish church was rebuilt on the original site in 1785 and a gallery and an aisle were added in 1810. Complete renovation of the church followed in 1881. The parish register of Kilmory begins in 1701 and ministry is recorded from 1580 in the person of Hector McAllister. The kirk session of Kilmory and Kildonnan was formed in 1954 by the union of the two named parishes. This union was later dissolved on 29 February 1968 and Kilmory was, on the same date, linked with Shiskine. The arrangement with Shiskine ended 9 years later in 1977 in favour of a linkage with Lamlash. In 1600 Kilmory was placed within the Presbytery of Irvine but in 1638 upon the formation of the Presbytery of Kintyre, was re-assigned within this jurisdiction, it later fell within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Ardrossan. |
