The ancient church of Kenmore was dedicated to St Aiden and ministry is recorded here from 1567, in the person of Duncan McLagan The site of the old church at Inisadain on the banks of the river Tay now lies within the grounds of Taymouth Castle. The church was moved to Kenmore in 1579 but the old building continued in occasional use until 1760 when a new church was erected at the site in Kenmore. A new wing was later added in 1832. The Ardtalnaig section of Ardeonaig Parish united with Kenmore in 1956 and Kenmore linked with Lawers in 1957. Further links were made with Fortingall and Glenlyon in 1989 and in the following year Kenmore and Lawers strengthened their link by uniting to form the parish of Kenmore and Lawers.Kenmore existed in the most within the presbytery of Dunkeld however in 1836 the General Assembly erected the Presbytery of Weem, which took its parishes from Dunkeld, and Kenmore fell within this jurisdiction. Weem was later dissolved by boundary changes and Kenmore transferred back to the Presbytery of Dunkeld. The charge of Fortingall and Glenlyon linked with Kenmore and Lawers was formed in October 1990. |
