The church of Keig was dedicated to St Declan, otherwise called St Diaconan, and was confirmed to the Priory of Monymusk by Bull of Pope Innocent III in 1200. Ministry is recorded from 1567 in the person of Andrew Ogilvie. In 1929 the charge took the name of Keig North to differenciate it from the former United Free charge of Keig South. But these two charges united in 1937 to form Keig Church of Scotland. On the 1st January 1958 Keig linked with Tough, the link however only lasted until 1st February 1977 when it was terminated. A further link was established with the congregation of Alford with Tullynessle and Forbes soon afterwards in 1977, and these charges eventually united in July 1999 to form Howe Trinity Church of Scotland. The kirk session of Keig was situated initially in the Presbytery of Alford until by Act of Assembly XXII, 1962, the Presbytery of Deeside and the Presbytery of Alford were united under the name of Presbytery of Deeside and Alford, and then in the Presbytery of Gordon. |
