The General Assembly Proposed to erect the Presbytery of Haddington, which sits within the Synod of Lothian and Tweedale, in April 1581 and the registry begins on 24th January 1587. The presbytery comprises the parishes of Aberlady, Athelstaneford, Bolton, Dirleton, Garvald, Gladsmuir, Haddington, Humbie Morham, North Berwick, Pencaitland, Prestonpans, Salton, Tranent, and Yester, and the quoad sacra parish of Cockenzie, with the chapelries of St John's (Haddington) and Gullane. The Presbytery was later united with Dunbar to become Haddington and Dunbar Presbytery, and from 1 January 1976 Dalkeith Presbytery was united with Haddington and Dunbar to form Lothian Presbytery. |
