Prior to the reformation Glencorse existed as a Parish designated to the Church of St Catherine-in-the-Hope and was attached to the Bishopric of Edinburgh. It was held by the Parish of Lassawade in the late 16 century, and by an Act of Parliament the two parishes were united in 1611. The union with Lassawade however proved unsatisfactory as the lack of stipend prevented Glencorse from being granted a separate charge. Despite the Presbyteries agreement to appoint a colleague to the minister of Lassawade in 1615 to take over the work at Glencorse , Glencorse was disjoined from Lassawade By act of Parliament on 8th March 1647 and erected into a separate parish.A new church was erected in 1647 and despite having been rebuilt in both 1694-1695 and 1699 and renovated in 1811 the church remained in use until 1885 when it gave way to the present church situated near Milton Bridge. Glencorse was linked with Roslin in 1968. The Parish is within the Presbytery of Dalkeith and the Synod of Lothian and Tweedale. |
