It is recorded that there was ministry at St Mungo (near Lockerbie) from 1575. The charge was formerly called Abermelk or Castlemilk, but the name was changed to St Mungo in the seventeenth century and remained as such thereafter. Originally the charge sat within the Presbytery of Lochmaben, and following a restructuring of the presbyteries, it then became the Presbytery of Annandale, and latterly Annandale and Eskdale Presbytery. A link with the congregations of Dalton and of Hightae was established in 1976. Dalton and Hightae eventually united in 2016, and the link with St Mungo continued until the St Mungo congregation was dissolved and the church closed in 2022. |
