The congregation in Harthill was established in 1877 when the first minister, Rev Alexander Watt was inducted into his charge; Harthill and Benhar. The parish was disjoined from Shotts on 18 March 1878. The congregation united with that of Harthill Forrest Memorial, a former Free/United Free congregation in 1953, taking the name of Harthill St Andrew's.
