There was a reader in place in Coldstream, formerly known as Lennel, as early as 1574. The Lennel church was a 12th century building was considered to be the parish church at that time. By 1705 the church was ruinous and too small, so a new church was erected at Coldstream by Charles, Earl of Home. The old church at Lennel was eventually repaired, but in 1718 the newer church in Coldstream was declared the parish church. In 1929 the congregation took on the name of Coldstream Old to differentiate it from former United Free charges which passed back to the Established Church. A union with Coldstream St Cuthbert's took place in 1963; the united charge given the simple name of Coldstream, once again. 1985 brought a link with Eccles, and a union followed in 2016 with the congregation of Ladykirk and Whitsome and the congregation of Swinton. The united charge taking the official name of Coldstream and District Parishes. |
