The parishes of Cummertrees and Trailtrow were united by Act of Parliament on 24 June 1609. Originally in the Presbytery of Lochmaben, the united parish was transferred to the Presbytery of Annan in 1743. Some time later Trailtrow seemed to be dropped from the name of the church as it was most often referred to as simply, Cummertrees. Certainly by 1929 the charge was officially known as Cummertrees Church of Scotland. Links were subsequently made with the two charges of Mouswald and Ruthwell and Mound Kedar, but these were terminated in favour of a union of the three congregations in 2011 to form the single charge of Cummertrees Mouswald and Ruthwell Church of Scotland. |
