Govanhill (Quoad Sacra) began as a mission station in 1874, where services were held in a temporary chapel. A church was built in 1881 and the Parish of Govanhill was disjoined from Govan and Queen's Park in 1893. At the union of the Church of Scotland with the United Free Church in 1929, the charge became Govanhill South Church of Scotland. A union with Govanhill West took place in 1952, the united charge taking the simple name of Govanhill Church of Scotland. Worship was conducted in the Govanhill West Church building, and Govanhill South Church was sold in 1953. A further union took place in 1989 with the congregation of Candlish-Polmadie to form Govanhill Trinity Church of Scotland. |
