Bridge of Weir began as a Quoad Sacra church with its first minister admitted there in 1839, although he left to join the Free Church in 1843. Bridge of Weir was then disjoined from the parishes of Kilbarchan and Houston by the Court of Teinds and erected as a Parish in 1887. In 1929, when the Church of Scotland united with the United Free Church, this charge became known as Bridge of Weir St Machar's Church of Scotland to differentiate it from the former United Free congregations in the area. A union with Bridge of Weir Ranfurly Church of Scotland took place in 1968, the united charge taking the name of Bridge of Weir St Machar's Ranfurly Church of Scotland. |
