There has been a church in Bedrule since the latter part of the 16th century. Originally in the Presbytery of Jedburgh, it was disjoined from the parish of Abbotrule (or Rule Hervey) in 1777. A new church was built on the same site in 1804, rebuilt again in 1877 and enlarged in 1914. In 1947 Bedrule was transferred from the Presbytery of Jedburgh to that of Hawick. A link was established with the Church of Scotland charge of Denholm in 1963, and a further link with Minto took place in October 1976. These links were terminated, however, in favour of a union between Bedrule, Denholm and Minto in 2003 under the name of Ruberslaw Church of Scotland. |
