Edinburgh, St Serf's Church (sometimes called Edinburgh, Leith St Serf's) has its origins as a mission station affiliated to St Cuthbert's Church. In 1899 an iron church building was erected in which St Serf's mission services were taken by the ministers of St Cuthbert's. By 1900 the Rev David Gordon Hamilton was appointed to St Serf's as their first minister. In due course it was agreed that a more permanent building was needed, and by 1903 a new stone church had been built and opened. The mission was granted full status and erected as a parish in 1912, disjoinin from St Cuthbert's, St Bernard's and Newhaven. There were subsequent additions to the church building; a gallery and chancel were added in 1921 and 1924 respectively; a hut hall was erected in 1950; and a more permanent suit of halls being built ten years later in 1960. In 2011 a union between Inverleith and St Serf's churches took place to form Inverleith St Serf's Parish Church. |
