The district of Saddell was disjoined from the Parish of Killean by the Court of Teinds in 1753. At the same time the district of Skipness was disjoined from the Parish of Kilcalmonell. The Court then erected these two disjoined districts into the new parish of Saddell. The Parish Church at this time was named Saddell and Skipness, but in 1870 Skipness was taken from Saddell and made a separate parish, and so Saddell continued as the parish church. The Carradale portion of Carradale and Skipness united with Saddell in 1936, but the union was soon dissolved. However, the union was renewed in 1952 to form Saddell and Carradale Church. After this union Saddell and Carradale had two churches, two manses, two small chapels and one mission hall. One chapel (Grayport) and Caradale mission hall were sold in 1961 and 1963 respectively; the second chapel was demolished in 1968; the Carradale church was converted into a church hall in 1970; and the congregation continued to worship in the Saddell Church maintaining the name of Saddell and Carradale Church of Scotland. |
