The church at Advie began its life as prebend of the Cathedral of Elgin and was united with the parishes of Cromdale and Inverallan prior to the Reformation. The three parishes remained together until the late 19th century when, first Inverallan was disjoined and erected quoad sacra in 1869, and a then number of years later in 1888 the district of Advie was also disjoined and erected as a separate parish. In 1905 Advie Parish Church was enlarged, the interior renewed, stained-glass introduced, and a tower erected. Advie was again linked with Cromdale in 1959, but the link was terminated in favour of a union of the two charges in 1972, becoming Cromdale and Advie Parish Church, and in the same year a link was also established with Abernethy, although this linkage was later severed. Further linkages were established, firstly with Dulnain Bridge and then also with Grantown-on-Spey. |
