In the early 17th century Annan was without a place of worship and as a consequence James VI granted to the town and parish the use of the house called the Castle of Annan, where the hall and tower served as a place of worship. In 1609 Parliament gave approval for the removal of the stones and timber from the hall at the Castle of Annan in order to build a new church. The present church in Annan was built in 1790. A new church hall was erected and opened in 1929, and further improvements were carried out in 1913. Annan old Parish Church sits in the Presbytery of Annandale and Eskdale. |
