The establishment of the Presbytery of Forres was initially proposed by the General Assemblies of 1581 and 1596 and it was officially erected shortly prior to the General Assembly of August 1590. Between the years of 1689 and 1702 the Presbytery of Forres formed part of the United Presbyteries of Moray and it was conjoined with the Presbytery of Inverness from 1702-1708. The Parishes brought together to form the Presbytery were; Altyre, Dallas, Ardlach, Auldearn, Dyke, Moy and Culbin, Nairn, Edinkillie, Forres, Kinloss and Rafford. When the Presbytery of Nairn was erected in 1773 the parishes of Ardlach, Auldearn and Nairn were disjoined. Forres sat within the Synod of Moray. |
