The parish church was dedicated to St. Ternan and consecrated by Bishop de Bernham on 3 August 1242. It was appropriated to the Collegiate Church St. Mary on the Kirk Heugh at St Andrews. The chapain, Sir James Sibald, wrote and illuminated "The Arbuthnott Missal". A charter of 30 May 1505 outlines the granting of a chaplain by Sir Robert Arbuthnott. Ministry within the Session began in 1563 in the person of Andrew Patrick, reader. Arbuthnot session was originally under the jurisdiction of Fordoun Presbytery. In the twentieth century Arbuthnot Kirk Session came under the jurisdiction of Brechin and Fordoun Presbytery, followed by Angus and Mearns Presbytery and is now under Kincardine and Deeside Presbytery. On 1 January 1976 the session linked with Kineff, followed by a similar arrangement with Bervie on 27 August 1987. On 13 September 1990 the link with Kineff was terminated. |
