There has been a place of worship in Renfrew since before 1136. At that time, Glasgow Cathedral was built and consecrated by John Achais, Bishop of Glasgow, and one of the gifts bestowed on it by King David I was the church at Renfrew. After falling into disrepair a new church was built and dedicated in 1862, the minister at that time being Rev Robert Stephen. In 1929, the church became known as Renfrew Old Parish Church instead of Renfrew Parish Church as a consequence of the town being divided into separate parishes. |
