The registry of the Presbytery of Fordoun, which sat within the Synod of Angus and Mearns, begins on the 12th November 1662. There is a gap in the register between 1685 and 1689, however it is known that the Presbytery was united to the Presbytery of Dundee from 5th September 1688 to 17th September 1698. During this period the Presbytery was titled the United Presbytery of Angus and Mearns. After 1698 and up to the 10th September 1700 the Presbytery of Fordoun formed part of the United Presbytery of Brechin, Fordoun and Arbroath. Fordoun later formed a union alone with Brechin (from 27th April 1938) and by Act of Assembly XXXIII 1961, the Presbyteries of Forfar, Arbroath and Brechin and Fordoun were united as the Presbytery of Angus and Mearns. |
