During a large part of the 17th and 18th centuries the parishes of Forbes and Kearn were united. The links between them however were not constant and the two parishes, both of whom have ministry recorded from the late 16th century, have experienced various unifications. The parishes, which were both within the prebend of Aberdeen, were originally united in 1618 by the Commissioner for the Plantation of Kirks, this tie however was severed in 1638. On the 18th July 1722 Forbes and Kearn were joined for a second time, only to be disjoined 70 years later in 1792. In 1792 the ties between the two parishes were severed for a final time. The Parish of Forbes went on to unite with Tullynessle to form Tullynessle and Forbes and Kearn was united with the parish of Auchindor. Further unions were to follow in the 20th century when Tullynessle and Forbes linked to Alford in 1959 and Auchindor united with Kildrummy in 1964. The Parish of Forbes and Kearn sat within the Presbytery of Alford. |
