The pre-reformation parish of Bothkennar was said to have been dedicated to St Kinnera. Bothkennar teinds were possessed by the nunnery of Eccles in the pre-Reformation period and the Abbey of Cambuskenneth also held lands in this parish. Post-reformation, the parish continued as an ecclesiastical and a civil parish. Part of the parish was removed in 1880 to form part of the quoad sacra parish of Grangemouth. Bothkennar and Carronshore Parish Church was formed on 29 December 1943 by the union of Carronshore and Bothkennar Parish Church. Carronshore Church was set up as a mission charge from Dunipace and Larbert Parish Church during the nineteeth century, meeting in the former village school. Bothkennar church building was erected in 1789, restored and enlarged in 1887 and a hall built in 1926. |
