During the year 1874 the foundations of a mission church were built within this area and the church was opened on the 25th July 1875. A number of years thereafter in 1880 the parish of Oban St Columba's was disjoined from Oban and Kilbride and erected quoad sacra. In 1949, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Oban St Columba's joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Oban Argyll Square, under the name of Oban St Columba's Argyll Square. After the local union the former Argyll Square church and manse were sold. Further union later followed in 1983 with Oban Christ's Church Dunollie and Kilmore and Kilbride Oban Old to form the charge of Kilmore and Oban. The kirk session of Oban St Columba's sat within the Presbytery of Lorn. |
