The parish of Colliston was established in 1875 when it was disjoined from St Vigeans and erected quoad sacra. In 1930, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Colliston parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Colliston St Mark's. After the local union, under the name of Colliston, the St Mark's church and manse were sold and a link was later established in 1961 with Arbirlot. A further link followed in 1983 with Carmyllie. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath until 1961 when, by Act of Union , the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united together under the name of Angus and Mearns. Following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
