The old church of Moffat held a dedication to St Mary and the kirk session records ministry from 1567, in the person of David Mail, reader. At the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Moffat parish church became termed Moffat St Andrew's and in 1960 Moffat St Andrew's united with the former United Free Church congregation of Moffat Well Road. The two charges joined under the name of Moffat and a link later followed in 1971 with Wamphray. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Lochmaben and later of Annandale, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Annandale and Eskdale. |
