Prior to the reformation Elchies existed as a vicarage dependent on Botarie and the church held a dedication to St Colin. In 1695 Elchies was annexed to the parish of Knockando. A mission station was opened here in 1870, a church erected in 1874, and in 1912 Elchies was once more disjoined from Knockando and erected quoad sacra. In 1934 Elchies united with the congregation of Archiestown (CH3/1525) to form the charge of Elchies and Archiestown, and a number of years later in 1968 a further union followed with Knockando, under the name of Knockando, Elchies and Archiestown. A link was later established in 1982 with Rothes. The Kirk Session of Elchies sat within the Presbytery of Aberlour and later of Elgin. |
