The church of Boyndie, which was known of old as Inverboyndie, was dedicated to St Breandan and belonged anciently to the Abbey of Arbroath. In addition to the old church, which was rebuilt in 1773, there also existed within the bounds of the parish a mission chapel at Whitehill. At the 1929 union of the church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Boyndie parish church was renamed Boyndie St Brandon's and in 1948 Boyndie St Brandon's joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Boyndie Trinity. After the union the charge continued under the name of Boyndie and both churches remained in use. A link later followed in 1988 with Ordiquhill, Cornhill and Ord and the name of the charge was changed in 1999 to Whitehills. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Fordyce until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Buchan. |
