The old church of Irvine, which was rebuilt in 1774, belonged, prior to the reformation, to the Abbey of Kilwinning and held a dedication to St Inan. At the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church the charge became Irvine Old Church of Scotland, but was also known as Irvine St Inan's between 1929-1939. The kirk session sat within the presbytery of Irvine and later of Kilmarnock. |
