The kirk session of Kirkhope was established in 1851 when it was disjoined from that of Yarrow and erected as a separate parish . In 1934, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, the Ettrickbridge portion of the former United Free church congregation of Ettrick and Tuchielaw united with Kirkhope. After the union the session continued under the name of Kirkhope and the former Ettrickbridge church was converted for use as a church hall. In 1967 Kirkhope linked with the charge of Ettrick and Buccleuch and a number of years later in 1976 the two congregations were joined together under the name of Ettrick. Additionally in 1976 Ettrick was linked with Yarrow. Kirkhope Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Selkirk and later of Melrose. |
