It is believed that Robert I, during the early part of his reign, gave over the patronage of the Church of Ellon to the Abbey of Kinloss. The church was originally dedicated to St Mary and there is ministry recorded at Ellon from 1567. The original church ceased to be used in 1777 when the current building was erected. Ellon united with Slains in 1973 and again with Logie Buchan in 1977. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Gordon. |
