Anderston St Martin?s Church, Glasgow, began with a chapel of ease for Anderston in 1799. In 1849 the building was burned down and not replaced until 1865. The parish was disjoined from Govan as Anderston St Martin?s quoad sacra ten years later, and terminated in 1951 on uniting with St Peter?s as Anderston and St Peter?s. The combined congregation continued to use the church, at the junction of Argyle Street and St Vincent Street, until its termination in 1968. The building was demolished the following year as part of the approach works for the Kingston Bridge. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr (later Clydesdale). |
