The parish church of Elgin was dedicated to St Giles; the earliest record of St Giles Church dates back to 1224. Towards the late 17th century when need arose for greater space for worship in Elgin a building by the name of the Little Kirk was constructed adjoining the church of St Giles. In 1778 the Little Kirk was made a Chapel of Ease. The original Church of Elgin, St Giles stood in Elgin High Street until 1826 when the church was demolished to make way for the current building. Elgin St Giles, formed a union with St Columba's South in 1999. The kirk was within the Presbytery of Elgin untill the late 20th Century, it now lies within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Moray. |
