The church of Airlie held a dedication to St Medan and the session records ministry from 1567, in the person of Andrew Ogilvie. In 1929, at the Union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Airlie Parish Church was named Airlie North and in 1931 Airlie North united with the former United Free Church congregation of Airlie South. The charges were joined under the name of Airlie and after the union both churches remained in use for worship. A link later followed in 1965 with Ruthven and in 1994 the two charges united, along with Kingoldrum, to form the session of Airlie, Kingoldrum and Ruthven. The united parish was also linked on the same date with Kilry and Lintrathen. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Meigle, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
