It was proposed at the General Assembly of April 1581, and again in May 1586, that the Presbytery of Elgin be established. The presbytery was erected before 1590, with the Presbytery register beginning on the 12th November 1635. Initially it formed part of the United Presbyteries of Moray (1689-1702) and the United Presbyteries of Elgin, Aberlour and Abernethy (1702-1727). On the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, the Presbytery was united with the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce to form the Presbytery of Moray. |
